Lauren Turk
I’m a French and English speaking singer and songwriter based in Oakland, California. I grew up listening to and admiring jazz greats like Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, playing violin in orchestra, as well as piano, and later, ukulele. After singing in the streets of Paris and Berlin, I knew I couldn’t ignore the music and love of performance inside of me, so I moved to LA to develop my sound.
I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with amazing artists internationally and building an audience around the world. The album "Fire Inside (2020)," with French artist Anoraak released on Paper Records to critical acclaim, combining vibrant retro energy with lyrical depth, while “Close Your Eyes” (2024), a collaboration with Bay area artist KR3TURE quickly became a festival dance floor favorite with its mix of sexy, earthy lyrics and progressive house vibes. My first single, “Love Left Over” was premiered by the Fader with a music video featuring the incredible Amandla Stenberg, followed by a full album, “Bloom” (2017), “See You Again” (2018) and “Good is Coming” (2019).
I’ve had the pleasure of bringing music to life on stages of all sizes and contexts around the world. I’ve sung for the Obamas, ambassadors, the city of San Miguel de Allende during the city’s Dia de Los Muertos Festival, crowds Burning Man, conferences like TEDx, HATCH, C2, the Ocean Plastics Leadership Summit, for corporate leadership retreats of Fortune 500 companies, as well as countless intimate venues around the world.
I have never fit squarely in a box, and neither does my music. I dance across genres with different combinations of live instruments and musical traditions, consistently grounded in earnest lyrics, catchy melodies, and electronic beats. I tend to explore themes of self-discovery, liberation, as well as the sacredness of nature and the feminine.
In live shows, I love to push boundaries, breaking the barriers between audience and stage with interactive concerts through improvisation and ritual. I partnered with Airbnb to launch “Experiences” with my signature “Stories to Songs” concerts in LA, where the concert was fully improvised songs based on realtime stories of audience members (Stories to Songs). I also love weaving in rituals that use the power of music to its fullest, to connect people to their inner world as well as each other.
